Bill Nye's Solving for X

Is that Rachael Ray? Martha Stewart? Good Heavens, it's Bill Nye, cooking up some fractions. We'll start out in the kitchen but end up in the "Otherworldly Zone" where an infinite amount of fractions hide out between one and zero.

They're elegant, simple and pretty to look at. Bill takes the Schoolhouse Rock approach and sings "Exponentiality," a catchy tune celebrating the poetry that awaits us whenever we use the algebraic shorthand known as "Exponents."

Bill's idea of taking us "Over The Rainbow" is actually a journey through the "Barrier of Zero," where we'll behold the negative numbers on the other side! But we'll breathe easier once we see how a number's negative or positive sign simply tells us in which direction we've traveled away from zero.

Bill makes the scene, using proportional reasoning to size up the famous Hollywood sign, which he figures is sure to make him the toast of Tinseltown.

She called herself "Y." Teary-eyed, one evening she appeared unannounced at his office, asking Detective Nye to uncover the true identity of "X" - who like her, was clearly another unknown. One thing was for sure: "X" and "Y" were variables.

Bill ponders the sweetness of balancing equations. But no matter how many cupcakes are actually hiding in each of those boxes, you know he's still gonna want just one more.

Bill hits the road to show us how we can zip through algebraic questions involving things like speed, distance and time, just by putting those units of measurement to work. How far is it to Grandma's house anyway? I'm ready for lunch.

Bill takes us on a Bowling field trip to fire some linear functions down the alley. Constant rates of change and fun for the whole family!
